About Me

After winning The Newlywed Game TV show in a bonus round rally, I left stardom behind and began my career as a writer.

First, there were newspapers. My first "real" job was as a small town reporter in Rhode Island. I once interviewed a dozen people about a rubber duck race in a river. Then, I climbed the tote bag ladder to National Public Radio where I learned the craft of long-form audio storytelling on a Peabody Award-winning show.

In college, my father once told me to try my writing skills and humor in a marketing department. Eventually, like a boomerang on a seven year trip, my father's advice came back to me and I joined an educational nonprofit. I helped write and manage the highly successful NYC Teaching Fellow recruiting campaigns.

Life threw a curveball and I became injured enough that, for a while, the only writing I could do was through speech recognition. I accidentally signed more than a few emails "Sincerely, Damn Cayer.” There were no solutions for my specific problem so I developed a new method that combines mindfulness meditation and the Alexander Technique. I founded two newsletters, wrote a book, and became a dad twice over.

I have loved earning readers’ trust and finding creative ways to add life and relatability to brand voice. If you have need for a writer that can convey your key messages and value – and have fun doing it – let's chat.

This has nothing/everything to do with work.

  • I have led several groups of middle and high schoolers on long-distance bicycle trips over the Rockies, Alps, and from Paris to Rome. I also once rode from Tupelo, Mississippi all the way to Santa Monica pier.

  • I’ve been a meditator for almost 20 years and have been teaching it for the last several.

  • After a serious injury in my mid-20s, I studied the Alexander Technique for three years to help learn how to re-use my body in a healthy, sustainable way. I now swim long distances, wrestle with my daughters, and play guitar with poor rhythm.

  • I live in the lower Hudson Valley, in the house where the world’s most famous sock puppet, Lamb Chop, was created.

I spent my 21st birthday in a cave in the Gobi Desert, drinking warm beer with Buddhist monks as they sang “Happy Birthday” on a harp.
